This Privacy Policy explains how Miles & Mapped (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit or use [milesandmapped.com] (the “Site”), including our AI Road Trip Planner.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Trip planner inputs: starting location, destination, trip length, travel style, vehicle type, and similar preferences you enter to generate an itinerary.
- Email address: if you subscribe to our newsletter or submit your email to receive a generated itinerary.
- Account information: if we offer accounts, information such as your name and email used to create and manage your account and saved trips.
- Communications: information you provide if you contact us directly.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, time on page, referring URLs, general location (city/region level, derived from IP address), device and browser type, collected via analytics tools.
- Cookies and similar technologies: used to remember preferences, measure Site performance, and support advertising (see Section 4).
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Generate and display road trip itineraries through the planner tool;
- Send newsletters, route ideas, and related content to subscribers who opt in (you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email);
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its features;
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve content and site performance;
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, or fraud;
- Comply with legal obligations.
Trip planner inputs (start/end locations, preferences) are used to generate your itinerary and, where you’ve opted in via email capture, may be retained to improve recommendations and follow up with related content. We do not sell your trip planning data to third parties.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers who help us operate the Site — such as our hosting provider, email service provider ([Fluent CRM / your ESP]), and analytics provider (Google Site Kit / Google Analytics) — under obligations to protect your data;
- Routing and mapping data providers (such as OpenRouteService and OpenStreetMap) that process the start/end locations you submit to calculate routes — we send only the location data necessary to generate your route, not your identity;
- AI service providers (such as Anthropic) that process your trip preferences and curated stop data to generate itinerary recommendations;
- Affiliate and advertising partners, in aggregate or pseudonymous form, as described in Section 4;
- Legal authorities, where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
4. Cookies, Analytics, Advertising & Affiliate Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Essential cookies: required for basic Site functionality.
- Analytics: we use Google Site Kit (Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the Site.
- Affiliate tracking: when you click a link to a partner such as Stay22 or a TravelPayouts-powered booking widget, a cookie may be set by that partner to track the referral so we can earn a commission if you complete a booking. This is governed by that partner’s own privacy policy.
- Advertising: as the Site grows, we may display ads through networks such as Google AdSense, Ezoic, or Mediavine. These networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. [Update this section with the specific network(s) you activate, and add their required disclosure language / consent management platform once live — Ezoic and Mediavine both provide this.]
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect Site functionality, including the trip planner.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Email subscribers can request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
6. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Request correction or deletion of your personal information;
- Opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link;
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising, where applicable under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA);
- Object to or restrict certain processing, where applicable under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL].
8. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Users
The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
